Steps is changing its name to become
BUILD Research, Training and Consultancy Service, where adults with learning difficulties are supported and facilitated to design, deliver and evaluate a range of voluntary and commercial services for clients in the public, private and voluntary sector.
BUILD consultants worked in the past as volunteers, but in January 2010 launched a new business model whereby they will become self-employed as consultants to deliver commercial services on behalf of the BUILD charity.

BUILD's Consultants have recently undertaken for the following clients:

HM Prison Service (Norwich) Visitor's Centre via the Ormiston Trust - making recommendations on improving accessibility for prison visitors, and families

Victim Support (Norfolk) - reviewing documentation and processes for vulnerable and intimidated witnesses attending court

British Red Cross - advising on marketing documentation for a range of First Aid Courses aimed at vulknerable adults and people with disabilities.

Norfolk Adult Social Services Learning Difficulties Services - training staff on advocacy skills

John Lewis Partnership - mystery shopping the Norwich store and advising managers on improvements to making the shopping experience more accessible and enjoyable
Along with other BUILD members,
Consultants are actively involved in many local discussion and decision making groups. These include issues such as housing, employment, training, quality assurance, research and day services reviews.
