BUILD BeFriends provides community based one to one partnerships for social activities between trained volunteers and adults with learning difficulties.
Partnerships generally meet about once a month for mutually agreed activities that range from shopping, meals and drinks out, to bird watching, swimming, going to the theatre, or cinema, or whatever the partnerships want to (within reason!!)

Volunteers and BeFriends members are matched according to their individual interests and personalities and are supported by BUILD's BeFriends Co-ordinators both initially and for as long as both people feel they need it.
All volunteers are subject to references through the Crimional Records Bureau, asked to provide two independent references and and receive initial and ongoing support and training. Volunteers receive an expenses allowance for activities and travel.
The BeFriends service currently matches the needs of members in an area of Norfolk that stretches from Norwich to Wells on the North Norfolk Coast around to Great Yarmouth. New developments are planned to provide the services accross the whole of Norwich, Broadland, North and East Norfolk and in the Breckland and South Norfolk areas in due course. (This is dependent on their being volunteers available in these areas)
We have information packs for members, volunteers and carers and also a 5-minute video that explains how BeFriends works. To find out more about the latest video, see the .
